My IU Health Guide - Account Creation

For Adults

  • Creating an Account Without an Invitation

Creating an account is easy, secure and free! Take a look at this handy guide to help get you started.

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org and click the “Create an Account” link. This is the red link located in the top right corner of the screen.

    2. Complete the form. In this section, we’ll ask for: your name, date of birth, address and the last four digits of your Social Security number. We use this information to match your medical and billing information. You will want to make sure to use your full legal name when filling out this section. If you haven’t lived at your current address for at least two years, make sure you check the empty box at the bottom of the page to add your previous address.

    3. Answer ID verification questions. These next questions have to do with your credit or financial history. This information is not used or stored by IU Health. We don’t have access to your financial records. It is only viewable by you to verify your electronic identity to ensure your personal health and billing information is kept confidential. Your online security is our number one priority. However, if you prefer not to answer these questions, we can email you a secure electronic invitation. This can be sent at your next office visit or by calling us at 317.963.1661, Monday—Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET (excluding major holidays).

    4. Complete your profile. This is where you will create your username and password. You will also need to provide a valid email address that will be associated with your My IU Health account. We’ll use this email address to send important health and billing information to you electronically. Don’t forget to create and answer a few personal security questions. Examples of these questions could be: your mother’s maiden name, your favorite musician or your favorite cartoon character. That way, if you forget your username or password, these security answers will help to identify you. (Hint: Be sure you create security questions that are easy to remember.)

    5. Click “Submit.” You’re done! Now you can begin enjoying the benefits of My IU Health.

  • Offering Access to Someone Else

You are able to share access to your Health Services information with up to three people.

Here is how you can offer access to your Health Services information.

    1. Select Manage Account. Once you click the arrow in the top right-hand corner, you will see two options. Click on the first one that reads, “Manage Account.”

    2. Select "Invite Someone To Have Access". You will find this as the fourth option in the left-side menu.

    3. Share access. You will now be taken to the page where you can share access to your account. To invite someone else to view your record, enter their email address and create a unique 4-digit activation code that you will share with them. An activation code can only be used once and will expire after 90 days. If expired, a new activation code will need to be sent. We will send that person an email invitation to your account. At that point, they will be prompted to enter the activation code you created. That person will be asked to create an account if they don’t have one already or sign into their existing account.

Please provide the activation code to the person you wish to invite. To ensure the highest level of security, we suggest that you do not share the activation code via email.

    4. Click “Submit.”

Remember: If you are creating an account, complete the form with your information, not your child’s.

  • Requesting Access To Your Child's Records

To access your child’s information, you must be his or her legal guardian.

You can request access within your own My IU Health account if you and your child live at the same address and the child is 13 or younger, or you can request access at your child’s next appointment.

    1. Click on “Manage Account.” You'll see a drop-down menu next to your name. Click on the first line that says, “Manage Account.”

    2. Click on "Request Access to My Child". This is the fifth option in the left-side menu.

    3. Complete the form. On this page, you’ll be asked: your child’s legal first name, legal last name, date of birth and the last four digits of his or her social security number. The child’s social security number must be in our electronic medical records system in order to request access online.

    • You may request access to your child’s records if you are his or her legal guardian and the child is under the age of 14 and lives with you. If you are the child's legal guardian but you live at a different address, you will need to request access at the child’s provider’s office.
    • If you encounter an error, call Customer Support at 317.963.1661.

    4. Legal conditions. On this page, you will need to agree to our legal terms and conditions.

    5. Click “Update.” You will then be able to access your child’s records.
