Frequently Asked Questions

  • Clipboards
    1. What is a clipboard? The clipboard is a new feature available in the My IU Health patient portal. Before most provider facing visits, you will receive one of these electronic clipboards that allow you to securely review and update your health history online.
    2. How do I know if I have a clipboard available? Once you log into your My IU Health patient portal account (https://myiuhealth.org/), click the Health Services icon in the “My Favorites” section. After you click the Health Services icon, you will be on the Health Services Home page. There are two indicators on this page if there is a clipboard available. First, just above the photo, there will be an announcement of a clipboard. Second, you will also see an orange box with an exclamation point on top of the Appointment icon.
    3. You may see more than one clipboard to complete. If your appointments are scheduled on the same day, you only need to complete one clipboard. If you have upcoming appointments on different days, then you will need to complete a clipboard for each day you have appointments scheduled. If you have any questions, please contact your provider's office.
    4. How do I fill out the clipboard? Click on the either area noted above. Select the clipboard for the appointment necessary by clicking “Take Now.” You will be presented an Overview page listing the sections you will complete, click the “Begin” button to start your clipboard. Each section has instructions along the right-hand side.
      1. At the end of each section, you will click the “Next” button to move into the next area of the clipboard.
      2. If you view information that is incorrect, click the “Edit” button and make corrections.
      3. If the information is correct, click the “Save” button.
      4. Once you have completed the clipboard, you will have an opportunity to review all your answers. You may modify by clicking Edit if necessary.
      5. Once you have completed your review, click “Submit Answers.”
    5. If I submit a clipboard, does it become part of my medical record? Once you fill out and submit a clipboard, expect your provider’s staff to confirm that nothing has changed. The information will become a part of your health information record.
    6. Can I see clipboards I have already submitted? Yes, patients or those individuals with access to a patient’s information, may see completed clipboards at any time. Here is how you access your completed clipboards.
      1. Log in to myiuhealth.org
      2. Click on the Health Services icon
      3. Click on the Review Clipboards icon
      4. Click on the Completed tab near the middle of the page
      5. A list will be presented if you have any completed clipboards
    7. I would like additional help. If you have questions, please contact Health Information Management at 317.963.1661 Monday-Friday from 8 am - 5 pm Eastern Time (excluding major holidays) or your provider’s office during their hours of operation.
  • Medication Renewal Requests

    We offer patients the opportunity to renew their medications through My IU Health.

    To request a prescription renewal, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in. Click the “Health Services” icon under My Favorites.

     

    2. Select “Medical Record” > "Medications" > “Renew.”

    4. Identify the prescription you need renewed and complete the form.  In this section, you will be asked which provider to send the renewal request to, the reason for the renewal and the quantity needed. In the event we have any questions regarding your prescription, let us know if you prefer to be contacted by secure message or by phone. There is also a box available where you can leave additional comments for your provider. Then, click “Send.”

  • Microbiology Reports

    1. To see Microbiology Reports:

    • Log in to myiuhealth.org
    • Click on the Health Services icon
    • Click on Medical Record
    • Click on Microbiology Reports

    2. What types of Microbiology reports are available? Bacteriology, Mycology, Mycobacteriology, Parasitology, Virology

    3. How can I see microbiology reports for a specific timeframe? You can see microbiology reports, if available, by using the filter feature. If you filter by a date range when no microbiology reports are associated with the user, the following message is displayed: No information found.

    4. When will I see the final results of a microbiology report? Each test has its own timeline. Be sure to select “Download” for each report as it contains additional important information such as report status. You may first see preliminary results but these are not yet finalized. Most tests will report final results between 1 and 8 weeks.

    Please note: If you have a question about your specific results, please contact your provider’s office.

    5. What do I do if I do not understand the results? Please contact your provider’s office for explanation of each unique test and its specific result set.

     

  • Online Scheduling

    We offer patients the opportunity to schedule their own appointments online through My IU Health.

    With self-service scheduling, you no longer have to call to make an appointment. Self-service scheduling gives you 24-hour access to schedule an appointment from any computer, tablet or smart phone. If for some reason an appointment cannot be self-scheduled, you may make an online appointment request.

    To schedule an appointment, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in. Click the "Health Services" icon under Favorites.

     

    2. Select “Schedule an Appointment.” This is the checkbox icon.

     

    3. Complete the form. In this section, you will select whom the appointment is for (in the event you are scheduling the appointment for someone else) and the type of appointment that is needed. Once you have completed the form, click “Search.”

     

    4. Select Location. This page will provide you a list of locations for the selected appointment type. You can scroll to find the location that is most convenient for your schedule, then click "Next".

    Note: You are able to edit the previous steps by click the blue "Edit" button at any time prior to selecting a day and time.

     

    5. Schedule Appointment.  This page will give you a list of available dates and times to make your next appointment.  If you scroll to the bottom, you can select "Load more appointment times" and new appointments will appear.  Hit the "Select" button to schedule an appointment time that works for you.

     

     6. Tell Us More. In this section, you will be asked what your symptoms are (such as, “coughing” or “neck pain”) and if you have any special needs or comments. Please let us know if you would prefer to be contacted by secure message or phone. Click, “Confirm Your Appointment” or "Cancel."

     

     


  • Radiology Reports

    Select Radiology reports are released to your account 36 hours after being reviewed by an IU Health provider.

    To view your Radiology reports, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in. Click the “Health Services” icon under Favorites.

    2. Select “Medical Record.” This is the folder icon on the top of your screen.

    3. Select “Radiology Reports.” This is the last icon on the left-hand side of your screen. Once you click on this, you will see your reports, if they are available.

     

  • Request to Cancel an Appointment

    If you need to request cancel an appointment, you must make the request at least 24 hours before the appointment.

    To request to cancel an appointment, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in. Click the "Health Services" icon under Favorites.

    2. Select “View Upcoming Appointments.” This is the calendar icon on the top of your screen.

     

    3. Cancel your appointment. To request to cancel an appointment online, select the “Options” button next to your appointment and select “Cancel Appointment.” If the appointment falls within the next 24 hours, you must call the provider's office to cancel the appointment. 

    4. Complete the form. You will want to be sure you send the request to the provider the appointment is scheduled with.  If you cannot find the provider on the messaging list, you will need to call his or her office to cancel the appointment. Once you have finished, click “Send Request.”

     


  • Request to Reschedule an Appointment

    If you need to request to reschedule an appointment, you must make the request at least 24 hours before the appointment.

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in. Click the "Health Services" icon under Favorites.

  • Requesting an Appointment

    We offer patients the opportunity to request their next appointment online through My IU Health. This service is for appointments that cannot be self-scheduled.  When you request an appointment, your doctor's office will follow up with either a secure message or a phone call to book the appointment.

    To request an appointment, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in. Click the "Health Services" icon under Favorites.

    2. Select “Request an Appointment.” 

    3. Complete the form. In this section, you will select whom to send the request to. Start typing the name of the provider (at least two letters) you would like to schedule an appointment with. Then, you select when you would prefer to be seen, what day you would prefer, the preferred time and why the appointment is needed. Please note if you would like us to contact you by secure messaging or by phone. Then, hit “Send request.” An IU Health team member will respond to your request within 24 hours.

     

  • Results

    The Results section of the Medical Record includes lab results, vital signs, blood pressure and body measurements. After you’ve completed lab work at one of our facilities, you will be able to see the results in your My IU Health account. Please note: We will post the results 36 hours after the tests have been completed. If you do not see your results, please contact your provider’s office.

    1. To view your lab results, please follow these steps:

    • Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in.
    • Click the “Health Services” icon under My Favorites.

    • On the Health Services Home page, select “Medical Record.”
    • Select “Results.” Once you select Results, you will see a complete list of your lab results.

    2. To view results for a specific date range, use the "Filter by Date Range" function by:

    • Navigate to Health Services > Medical Record > Results.
    • Locate the “Filter by date range” area below “Most recent results.
    • Enter the Start date and End date for your filter.
    • Click “Submit.”

    3. Some results can be graphed over time. Here are examples:

    • Blood Pressure (Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure)
    • Blood Glucose (Est Average Glucose mg/dL and mmol/L)
    • Hemoglobin A1C (Hemoglobin A1C HPLC Bld QN)
    • Heart Rate
    • Oxygen Saturation (SpO2 (Oxygen Saturation (%))
    • Lipids (Cholesterol SerPl QN, Triglyceride SerPl QN, HDL SerPl QN, LDL CALC
    • Weight

     

    4. To see a graphed result, follow these steps:

    • Select result by clicking on the result itself or the “View all for this result” link.

    •  Select a Time Range by clicking on the drop down arrow and selecting the Time Range you wish to see.

    • Change which Time Range parameter by clicking the left or right arrows below the graph.

    • If you select a time period where results are not available, the graph will state, “No data for this time period.”

  • Secure Messaging

    You can send a secure message to your provider using our messaging service.

    An IU Health team member will respond to your message within one business day. If your message is regarding an urgent need, please contact your physician’s office by phone. For emergency assistance, call 911.

    To send a message, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org  and sign in. Click the “Health Services Inbox” icon under Favorites.

    2. Click, “Send a Message” button. 

     

    3. Write your message. To search for your provider, you’ll need to enter the first two letters of his or her first name. Then, you will see a list of names you can pick from. Find your doctor and click on that name. Then, write your subject line and the message. If you need to attach a document, you can click on the “Choose File” button and upload your file. Once you have finished writing the message, click "send."

    Note: If you are sending a message on behalf of someone else, make sure you select his or her name before you start writing the message. This is at the top of the message that says, “This message is sent on behalf of.” 


  • Sign Out from Health Services

    How do I "Sign Out" from Health Services?

    1. Desktop

    a. Look in the lower left-hand corner for user's name

    b. Click on the three dots to the right of the user's name

      c. Select "Sign Out"

     

    2. Mobile

      a. Click on menu (three horizontal lines) in upper left-hand corner

      b. Click on the three dots to the right of the user's name

      c. Select "Sign Out"

     

  • Switching Between Accounts You Have Access To

    To switch between the accounts you have access to, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in. Click the "Health Services" icon under Favorites.

    2. Select the account you want to access. On this page, you will see a list of the names of people who have given you access to their account. To access their account, click on their name. You can switch between accounts by looking at the drop-down box, found above the lab results on the main Health Services page. When you click on a person’s name, you will have access to his or her Health Services information.

     


  • User Interface Updates

    Have there been recent updates to the Health Services interface? Yes, we recently updated the user interface for Health Services.

    The following lists the changes that were made.

    1. The following links have been moved to the left-hand menu:
    a. My IU Health Homepage
    b. Health Services Home
    2. Navigational Menu have been consolidated to the left-hand side.
    3. Quick link buttons have been reordered look like actual buttons.
    4. If the user is a Proxy for another patient, this is where they would switch between charts.
    5. Allergies and Latest Results will be moved to the right-hand side.
    6. The dots (ellipses) next to the patient name in the bottom left-hand corner is a menu with links to the following:
    a. Access Logs
    b. Help Guide
    c. Sign out
    7. The Info button on the bottom right-hand corner contains the following:
    a. Instructions if user has questions about health record.
    b. Contact information if the user has questions about account.
    c. Cerner Support Id
    d. Link to Terms of Use
    e. Link to Privacy Policy

  • Visit Summaries
    1. Where can I find Visit Summaries? Go to myiuhealth.org and sign in. Click the “Health Services” icon under Favorites. Next, click “Medical Record.” A link to “Visit Summaries” can be found within the “Medical Record” section. 
    2. How do I view a specific Visit Summary? To view a specific Visit Summary, click on the “Download” button that is associated with the visit date you want to view.
    3. How do I email a copy of a specific Visit Summary? To email a specific Visit Summary, click the “Send” button that is associated with the visit date you want to email. Next you will be presented with two options, choose the one that fits your situation. 
    4. How do I see Visit Summaries from a specific time frame? To search for Visit Summaries within a specific time frame, use the Filter by date range feature. Enter a start date and an end date then select the “Submit” button. Visit Care Summaries will then be filtered to show only those occurring between your start and end dates.
    5. Where can I find Visit Summaries prior to January 1, 2019? To find the information contained in visit summaries prior to January 1, 2019, please refer to Discharge Orders. Discharge Orders are found in the "Documents" section under Medical Record.
    6. Where can I find Provider Notes? After January 1, 2019, Visit Summaries include the following notes:
    • Inpatient: discharge summary, delivery note and POST order
    • Outpatient: ambulatory progress notes (not including adolescent medicine, psychiatry and child protection team notes
